United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development
(2005-2014)

In December 2002, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution declaring a "Decade of Education for Sustainable Development" to begin on January 1, 2005. The UN Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is serving as the lead agency of this Decade, and nations are being encouraged to establish their own Decade-oriented initiatives.
