GENERAL AND MULTIDISCIPLINARY STUDIES

INSTITUTION: Eramus University Rotterdam, Erasmus Center for Sustainability and Management (ESM)
DEGREE OFFERED: Industrial Ecology and Sustainability (Ph.D.)
DESCRIPTION: This program can be offered mostly off-campus. The program focuses on four themes: "human dimensions of the use of resources, perception and judgment of global environmental issues, effects of local, national and international social, economic and political structures and institutions upon the global environment, and industrial reorientation to sustainability." Students and staff also take part in an annual 14 day retreat that includes presentations and discussions about such topics as "Concepts and approaches of Cleaner Production, Cleaner Products, Industrial Ecology, Social responsibility and Sustainability."

DEGREE OFFERED: Sustainable Development (M.Sc.)
DESCRIPTION: Students choose one of three tracks to pursue related to sustainable development: (1) energy and resources, (2) land use, environment, and biodiversity, or (3) environmental policy and management. Each of these tracks contains five different kinds of courses including natural-science oriented, social-science oriented, interdisciplinary, research, and optional. The Copernicus Research Institute for Sustainable Development and Innovation also participates in this research with this program.
